for the 7th Polish-Israeli

Young Scholars Workshop

on the History and Culture of Polish Jews

Jagiellonian University, Kraków,  29 June – 2 July, 2020

Since the first workshop in Kibbutz Ma'ale HaHamishah in 2008, the Biennial Poland-Israel Workshop on the History and Culture of Polish Jews has succeeded in creating a supportive academic community that offers platform for discussion and scholarly exchange for the next generation of scholars of Polish Jewry. Through these and related frameworks, including a workshop in Kraków in 2010, in Sdot-Yam 2012,  in Wrocław – Wielka Lipa 2014, in Warsaw 2016,  and in Zichron Ya'akov 2018, doctoral students and recent PhD’s have had the opportunity to present their work, receive critical feedback from other scholars and meet colleagues from other centers.

The seventh Biennial Poland-Israel Workshop on the History and Culture of Polish Jews will be hosted and organized by Institute of Jewish Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, in cooperation with other academic institutions in Israel (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, Bar Ilan University, Open University of Israel) and in Poland (Jagiellonian University in Kraków, University of Wrocław)

The workshop will take place in Kraków from June 29 to July 2, 2020 and will include presentations by doctoral students and recent post-doctoral scholars, responses by senior scholars, discussions, keynote lectures and cultural activities. Participants will receive accommodation for the duration of the program. The organizers are expecting applications from young scholars whose dissertations are dealing with any aspects of the history and culture of Polish Jews and heritage of Polish Jewry in Israel, Poland and Diaspora. Candidates should submit an application in English to the organizers at the Institute of Jewish Studies of the Jagiellonian University at the following e-mail address: workshop.krakow2020@gmail.com by January 31, 2020. • a letter of interest,
  • a title and 1-2 page abstract of research proposal
  • short CV
  • recommendation by the PhD student’s supervisor should be sent directly to the conference organizers.

Although the workshop is geared toward doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars affiliated with universities in Poland and Israel, students from other countries working on relevant topics are also encouraged to apply.
